Why Organic
If you just got done spraying weed killer on your
weeds, would you then want to go and harvest
them for food? Of course not.
We do not generally think of our food as having
carcinogenic insecticides and chemicals on it as
we're eating.
Recent studies show that
farmers are six times more
at risk for non-Hodgkin’s
lymphoma. What's wrong
with this picture?
Organic produce is held to a much higher standard than
conventional produce,
causing it to be safely regulated by the USDA, thus being the
healthiest and safest produce to eat.
If you are considering becoming a raw foodist, you will be
susceptible to high amounts of poisons in your food unless you
buy organically, since 100% of your diet would be commonly
sprayed foods with a variety of chemical concoctions. These
chemical concoctions can cause a wide variety of health
problems, including:
- Neurotoxicity
- Disruption of your endocrine system
- Cancer
- Immune system suppression
- Male infertility and miscarriages in women
Not only is organic produce better for you with more nutrients
and tastes better, it is also better for the community, the
country's water supply, the farmers, the soil, the
environment, and even your pocket book. Here are a few
reasons why it is important to buy organic.
There are some people who claim that there is no difference in
the nutrient content of organic vs. non-organic food. There
are lots of studies that prove otherwise. Here is one chart.

The community is affected by the sale of non-organic
produce when, according to the USDA, 50% of all United
States farm products comes from only 1% of our farms and
over 650,000 community farms have been lost. That's a
BIG number to lose. We need to support our local growers
and help keep our local economy alive.
Did you know that the primary source of our drinking
water in 38 states is being contaminated with animal
waste run-off water along with carcinogens? The EPA
says that agriculture is responsible for 70% of the pollution
to our country's rivers and streams.
The farmers are subject to numerous carcinogenic
pesticides through the air they breathe while on the farm
all day and through their skin by touching, testing and
packaging.
Buying organic produce reduces the energy usage and
pollution. Since the farming industry uses 12% of our
country's total energy supply, it is important to think about
ways to conserve. Organic farmers generally use less
gasoline run equipment on their farms and they usually
sell locally which saves on transportation fuel.
If I haven't convinced you yet or you think organic produce
is just too expensive, did you know that there are hidden
costs when you buy conventional produce? Your tax
dollars are going toward pesticide regulation and testing,
hazardous waste disposal and clean-up, and
environmental damage. WE DO NOT NEED TO SPEND
MONEY ON THIS!
Your health, environment, and pocketbook are all being
majorly affected. Please make the decision to support your
local organic farmers today! Even if you can start by only
buying some organic and some not. It will help.
